Albert De Forest was a twin brother to Eleanor (youngest) and the son of Albert and Eleanor De Forest. He was born at Fryerstown on the Victorian Goldfields in 1857. Albert was a River Boat Captain and at varying times worked on the PS Enterprise, PS Barwon, PS Emma, PS Glimpse and PS Lancashire Lass during the 1880's and 1890's transporting timber, wool and other goods on the Murray and Darling River systems. During that time Echuca was his home base. When river boat transport was replaced by the railways he moved to Mildura and initially was a fruit grower, before he supplied timber to the State Rivers for the Merbein Pump and Merbein Distillery during the 1920's. He also worked on the pipeline supplying water to the town of Mildura. Around this time he was a Unionist and staunch member of the Labor Party attending a number of their fiery meetings held in Mildura. For the remainder of his life he lived in Mildura, and lived to a relatively old age of 81 years old where he died on the bank of the Murray River suffering from dementia in 1938.
