Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Thursday, November 14, 1940, page 2:
  George J. Hanser, a native of this city, and a relative of a number here, died suddenly at a farm near Cairo Wednesday afternoon. He had been a resident of East St. Louis for the past 29 years.
  Mr. Hanser was born in Edwardsville, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Hanser, on December 17, 1876. He was the youngest of seven children, two sisters preceding him in death. He was employed as night watchman at Swift & Co. in East St. Louis.
  His wife, the former Miss Julia Welch, died three years ago. Surviving are nine children, Mrs. Eva Wheeler, George Hanser, Jr., Forrest Hanser and Thomas Hanser of East St. Louis, Mrs. Lucille Mulcahy of Woodland, Cal., Roy Hanser and Michael Hanser of Collinsville, and James and Frederick in the United States Navy, and detailed at San Diego, Cal.
  A brother, Fred Hanser of Edwardsville, and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Rosipal and Mrs. Fred Heinrich of Edwardsville and Mrs. Elizabeth Fuhrman of McLean, Va., and eight grandchildren also survive.
  The body will be taken from the Lahey Funeral Home at Madison to the residence at 1602 Parsons street in East St. Louis. Funeral services will be held there Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery near Belleville.
