LaVerne “Bernie” Larkworthy, also known as Mrs. “B”, age 93, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Bernie was born June 27, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Hugh (1974) and Myrtle (Wiley) (1986) Kay. She moved to Medina when she was 12 years old and was a 1939 graduate of Medina High School, and worked part time in Probate and Juvenile Court from 1969 to 1985. Bernie bowled twice a week (Thursday afternoon and Monday evenings), golfed and was a grey lady at Medina General Hospital for many years. She became legally blind in 1992, from macular degeneration, which changed her life in many ways. Bernie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW for 42 years and was an avid animal lover.

She was the loving mother of Marla (David) Meszar.

Bernie was preceded in death by her husband Bernard in 2002, to whom she was married 54 years, and sister Marjorie Kay (1965).

Her family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Medina County and University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, Dr. Bhatt and staff for all of their help and support during her illness.

A funeral will be held Sunday, November 2, 6:00 p.m., at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Pat Pinkerton will officiate. A service will follow by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Family will receive friends Sunday from 4-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Bernie.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Medina County 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256, Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 5137, Attention Gail Tompkins, 3916 Pearl Road, Medina, OH 44256, or charity of your choice.
