Cecil Eugene Gardin

Cecil Eugene Gardin was the son of Luther Benjamin Gardin and Virgie Juanita Poteat Gardin. His Father was born in 1907, in McDowell County, North Carolina, and his Mother was born in 1910, in McDowell County, North Carolina.

Cecil had four brothers named Kenneth Benjamin, William Alley, Roby Harold Gardin, and Jimmy Stevenson Gardin.

He had three sisters named Elsie Marie Gardin Carter, Dottie Juanita Gardin Roland, and Judy Jean Gardin.

Cecil attended and graduated at Nebo High and Elementary School, located near Marion, North Carolina.

He joined the Naval Reserves while in high school and then after finishing school, he went into regular duty with the U.S. Navy. He went to Boot Camp at San Diego, California and then afterwards, to Great Lakes, Ilinois for futher training. He then was assigned to a ship at Norfolk, Virginia. He was home based in Norfolk while in the Navy with being assigned to a ship there. Two of the ships he was stationed on were the USS Vulcan AR-5 and USS Chikaskia AO-54. While being stationed on the USS Vulcan, Cecil's ship had to go and be a part of the Cuban Crisis. His enlistment time was extended for a few months before he was due to get out of the Navy while being stationed on the ship that was at the time in the Mid. His rank was MM2.

After completing Boot Camp he married Barbara Anne Barber from the vicinity of Marion, North Carolina, on February 21, 1962. While they lived in Norfolk they had two children born at the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth, Virginia. The two children were, a son, Duanne Darryl born Sept. 29, 1963 and a daughter, Melissa Annette born Sept. Sept 19, 1964. After Cecil was discharged from the Navy, he moved the family to Tampa, Florida in the spring of 1966. The family moved to Dade City, Florida for a few months with then moving to Seffner, Florida. While living at Seffner, Cecil and Barbara had another child, a son, Rohn Darrin Gardin, born June 11, 1973. Cecil, Barbara, and three children continued to live in Seffner, until later in May 1981, Cecil and Barbara were divorced.

Cecil and Barbara had two lovely, Grandaughters, Leah Michelle b October 23, 1992, and Lindsey Caroline b January 18, 1994.

Cecil immediately remarried and then had another child named Kristan. Also, there were stepchildren. The family continued to live mostly around Plant City, Florida.

Cecil later was to have had a grandson, Cole, and a grandaughter, Jade, by his daughter, Kristan.

Cecil died of Colon Cancer.
