Mr. Roby Harold Gardin, age 74, of the Dysartsville community, N.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 surrounded by his family at his residence.
Roby was born on February 18, 1934 in McDowell County to the late Benjamin Luther Gardin and Virgie Poteat Gardin.

He married Dorothy Hope Bowman on June 4, 1954, McDowell County, N.C.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired from the NC Dept. of Transportation following 31 years of service.
Roby left behind his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Hope Bowman Gardin; a daughter, Wanda Jane Wilkie of Ellenboro; two sons, Cameron Harold Gardin of Marion and Eric Benjamin Gardin and his wife Sharon of Rutherfordton; a brother, Jimmie Gardin of Marion; two sisters, Dottie Roland and Judy Jarrett, both of Marion; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunny Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 120 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801.
