Obituary: Isaac Crider -- died Cridersville, July 26, 1910, born Feb 11, 1825, Pickaway Co., to Ephraim and Polly Crider, 85 y 5 m 15 d -- married Susan Searfoss -- 12 children, 4 children and wife preceded him in death; surviving: Henry Crider of Delphos, Ephraim, I.D. and Anthony all of Lima, Mrs. John Reinohl and Mrs. Susan Mowery of Cridersville, Mrs. Monroe East of Allen Co., Mrs. Samuel Mowery of Hume. He came to Auglaize Co. in 1850. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Alex Shaw and Mrs. Leanah Spyker both of Cridersville, as well as 3 brothers, Abram Crider and John Crider of Cridersville, and Reuben of Wapak. Burial at Lutheran Cemetery.

Isaac Crider came to Auglaize County when his son John Ephriam was about 5 years old. The two-story log house, he built was moved many years later to Indian Lake, near Russell's Point (about 25 miles from Lima) and was a museum for many years. In 1957, it was still standing, but the old house had been turned into apartments for summer guests.

It is not known just what year, Isaac made the decision to push farther west, but his children were grown and married. Life was harder in Kansas than he expected: bad weather and crop failures he might have taken in his stride, but he made the mistake of helping his fellow neighbor in distress, and the loan or loans were never repaid. When his wife died, he gave up and returned to Ohio.

Isaac and Susan SEARFOSS were married July 31, 1846 in Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., Ohio.

Isaac and Susan had the following children:

1. Mary Ann CRIDER was born March 6, 1847 at Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. She married Isaac Conkel on 15 Mar 1870 in Hancock CO., OH.

2. Henry S. CRIDER was born August 16, 1848 at Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. Henry died April 28, 1917 at Delphos, Allen Co., Ohio. He married 1st) Elizabeth McMILLEN (or Mullen) on 28 Jan 1872 in Allen Co., OH, and 2) Lida MILLER List in 1890.

3. John Ephriam CRIDER was born March 8, 1850 at Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. John died October 22, 1920. He married Sarah Angeline DeLONG on 15 Oct 1874.

4. Lyman CRIDER was born August 5, 1851 at Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. Lyman died December 26, 1902. He married 1st) Elizabeth Catherine MOWERY (2 ch.), and 2nd) Annetta LOWERY-Sellars (6 ch.). Lyman was buried at St. Matthews Church, Cridersville, OH.

5. Sarah CRIDER was born May 10, 1853 at Madison Twp., Pickaway Co., OH. Sarah died in 1944. She married 3 times and had only 1 child who died young. Married 1st) Anthony BOWSHER, 2nd) Doc. SHARP, and 3rd) REINOEHL.

6. Priscilla Alice CRIDER was born March 17, 1855 at Auglaize or Allen Co., OH. Priscilla died January 13, 1933. She married Monroe EAST on 1 Nov 1877 and had 6 ch.

7. Isaac Daniel CRIDER was born February 15, 1857 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. Isaac died April 28, 1913. He married 1st) Marietta EAST (a sister to Monroe EAST) and had 2 ch.

8. Susan Abeline CRIDER was born March 17, 1858 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. Susan married John Allen MOWERY, had 8 ch. and died December 22, 1929.

9. Lovina Jane CRIDER was born March 24, 1861 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. Lovina died in 1925. She married Samuel Enos MOWERY and had 3 ch.

10. George B. (or W.) CRIDER was born August 21, 1863 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. George died November 7, 1867 at Auglaize Co., Ohio and was buried at St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery.

11. Joseph CRIDER was born December 22, 1865 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. Joseph died February 13, 1870 at Auglaize Co., Ohio and was buried at St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery.

12. Phillip Anthony CRIDER was born March 25, 1871 at Auglaize Co., Ohio. Phillip died September 26, 1951. He married Ida STROHL.
