Daniel Newcomer was a mason. He was married twice. He first married Mary A. Jacoby (or Jacobi) on 7/1/1852 in Milton, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. They moved to Fayette in 1857. After her death in 1876, he married Mrs. Minerva Rose Templeton (born Staples) 10/1/1877 in Fayette County, Iowa.

His second marriage may have ended in divorce. On the 1880 US Census, Daniel and his daughter Alpharetta Jones's family are living with Alpharetta's brother-in-law Raymond B. Jones. Daniel's marital status at this time is "M" (married), but Minerva is not listed on the census form. Minerva married her third husband, John Rhoades, in 1887.
