Lorene Mayhugh Bartlett, 88, died Wednesday, October 15, at Harmon County Memorial Hospital in Hollis with her family by her side.
Lorene was born June 8, 1926, in Sunset, Texas to Andrew and Maggie Mayhugh. She was the oldest of five daughters. Growing up she and her sisters helped out picking cotton on the family farm. She often bragged about how many cotton sacks she could fill in a day! She attended Westview School her entire twelve years and graduated in May 1944. Following business school in 1945 she began working at the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) in Hollis, OK. She was employed with FHA for 36 years until her retirement in 1981.
Upon his return from service in World War II, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Bartlett on Christmas Eve 1946. To this union they had three children Kent, June & Joye.
Lorene lived life to the fullest. She worked hard, both in and out of the home. She was “Momma” to Kent, June and Joye. Kenneth called her “Momma” too, and she called him “Kid”. But to the grandchildren she was known as “Nana”. She enjoyed all the activities her grandchildren were involved in from soccer games to pageants. She loved going to the coffee shop with her husband, working crossword puzzles and going to antique shows and auctions. She was an active member at First Baptist Church of Hollis, serving as the church Sunday school secretary.
Lorene is survived by her husband of over 67 years, Kenneth Bartlett of the home; her children Kent Bartlett of Edmond, June Norman of Hollis, and Joye Waller and husband Grady of Hollis; her grandchildren Scott Bartlett of Tulsa, Jenny Graves and husband Shad of Altus, Leah Womack and husband Jason of Perkins, Blake Bartlett of Edmond, and Logan Churchwell and wife M’Lainey of Iowa Park, TX; 3 great-grandchildren Zoee, Gavin & Zadee.
