101st Regt. PA. Vol. Inf. 1861-1865.

Served as Pastor at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Kingstown, PA from 1877 to 1881.

From contributor Dennis Brandt:

"The son of Nicholas & Anna (Bender) Slaybaugh, in 1860 he was a farmer living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 6" tall and had light hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg November 15, 1861, overstating his age by three years, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg December 14 as a private with Co. K, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry. When the regiment left Harrisburg for the field, he was left behind sick and soon transferred to the army hospital in York. Returning to duty, he re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer January 1, 1864, at Plymouth, North Carolina. Promoted to hospital steward June 1, 1865, he honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865. The Pennsylvania Archives ARIAS files spells his surname 'Sleibough.'

He married Anna R. Law in 1875 and fathered Edith G. (b. 06/??/77) and George E. (b. 09/??/80). His middle name may also have been 'Hertzel.'"
