Jake Altergott, 79, of Windsor, died Monday [Jan 27, 1997] at his home on the farm where he was born.

He was born Dec. 15, 1917, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Lind) Altergott.

On Feb. 5, 1939, he married Dorothy Seder in Windsor.

Mr. Altergott farmed and fed cattle southeast of Windsor until he retired in 1991 because of ill health. He grew up and attended schools in Windsor and graduated from Windsor High School in 1936. He attended Colorado State University for 1 1/2 years. In 1937, he received the State Farmer's Award.

Mr. Altergott was a member of the Colorado Cattle Feeders Assoc., the Weld County Ag Council, the Colorado Cattlemen's Assoc., the Windsor Re-4 school board, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. He served as director of the Northern Colorado Stockyards Properties, Inc., the Windsor Development Corp., and the Weld County Livestock Assoc., and vice president of the Front Range Land and Mineral Owners Assoc.

Mr. Altergott was a member and trustee of Faith United Church of Christ in Windsor.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy, three daughters and a son; three sisters, Marie Winder and Katherina Rutz, both of Windsor, and Ruth Midcap of Wiggins; a brother, Harvey [Harry] of Wheatland, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. A sister, Bertha Wiedeman, is deceased.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday [Jan 31, 1997] at Faith United Church of Christ, Windsor. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley.
