PENN YAN - Howard (Pete) Metzger 92, of Penn Yan, formerly of Hornell, died Wednesday (Aug 3, 2005) at Penn Yan Homestead Nursing Home, where he had resident for two days.
He was born on Dec 31, 1912, in Silver Creek, He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1931, Mr. Metzger was the son of Engelbert and Bertha Machauer Metzger, He worked as a meat cutter and a meat cutter manager in several New York and Florida establishments. He was also involved in real estate investments and property management.
Mr. Metzger regularly attended Mass at St. Michael's in Penn Yan.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Kathleen Metzger, Helen Campbell and Agnes Metzger; two brothers, Richard and Joseph Metzger; his wife , Edna Maglier Sherburne Metzger; and a stepdaughter, Sandra Sherburne Benedict.
He is survived by sons, Gary (Deidre)Metzger of Missoula, Mont., and Stephen (Rebecca) Metzger of Hornell; stepdaughter, Carol Sherburne Berry of Hornell; Stepson, David (Elizabeth) Sherburne of Hornell; former spouse, Irene Glover of Hornell; and special friend, Edna Fox of Penn Yan, Survivors also include 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan, where a service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday.
