Sister Camilla Fitzgerald, 74; Montgomery School Counselor

Camilla Fitzgerald, 74, a Catholic nun who was a Montgomery County public schools counselor from 1973 to 1993, died Jan. 31 at Holy Cross Hospital. She had complications from rheumatoid arthritis (from the effects on her kidney from long-term medications for the "'RA'- Rheumatoid A.rthritis.)
Long known as Sister Camilla, she took her vows in 1953 and was a member of the Holy Cross order. In Montgomery, she worked at Rosemary Hills Primary School and Ashburton Elementary School, among others.
She was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of Holy Cross Academy. She was a 1965 graduate of Dunbarton College and received in 1970 a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Catholic University, where she also did postgraduate work in school psychology.
She spent her early career teaching at Catholic schools in the Washington area as well as in New York and North Carolina.
After retiring, she volunteered with the Children's Defense Fund and Head Start. She spent the past several years working at Holy Cross Hospital in patient reception and teaching employees English as a second language. She lived in Silver Spring.
She leaves no immediate survivors.
