Edward was born in Sigmaringen,Baden-Wutternberg,Germany June 5,1842 to Xaiver and Theresia (STROPPEL)BLENDER. Edward was their 5th child. They went first to Hancock county, Illinois. Edward was just starting his teenage years then. When he got to be around 19 or 21 yrs. old, he joined the Civil War. He was in the Illinois 57th Infantry Company G. He mustered into the Civil War as a Private with his old brother Xaiver. He reinlisted and later at the end of the war mustered out as Corporal. He went to Iowa briefly but felt the call west. He homesteaded in Benedict where he was respected and loved. Edward arrived in Benedict in 1872 and married Lousia Marie BLESSMAN in 1874. Edward sold part of his land to Pleasant Hill Cemetery where he and his wife and some of their family are buried.
