Blanche was born in rural Mapleton on the Orchard Hill Farm to Charles Edwin and Edna May(Ham) Whitney. She was one of 11 children: Jesse, Dora Joyce, Erma, Florence, Marvin, Winnifred, George, Richard, Horace and John (who died as an infant). She was a talented piano player and played at the theater there for silent movies. She and Erma could play by memory and entertained many at the farm.
Blanche married George Clifford on Nov. 14, 1923 in Blue Earth County. They had a daughter, Marguerite Joan "Peggy" who preceded Blanche in death. They also had a set of twins in 1962. I have not found the name or internment of one, but William J. is buried next to his father.
