Edna was born in Utica Twp, Winnebago, WI to George C Ham ,from Maine, and Almira Gennette Scott from Ohio. They were married in Ripon, WI and had 6 children including Edna: Anna, Mary, Samuel, Charles and Charlotte.

They relocated to the Mapleton area where Edna met Charles E Whitney. They married on Sept 4, 1988 and were blessed with 11 children: Jesse, Dora Joyce, Blanche, Erma, Florence, Marvin, Winnefred, George, Richard, Horace and John- who died as an infant. In 1938, they reunited all 10 children for their golden anniversary.

She definitely had a sense of humor and won 1st honors in a Husband Calling Contest, something like hog calling. The article states:" A distinct enunciation combined with a peculiar irresistible appeal was the distinguishing mark which judges claimed resulted in the choice."
