May 14, 1912~ Sept. 30, 2014
Walnut Creek
Evelyn was born in North Platte, Nebraska, lived in Missouri and made her home for over 7 decades, in California, primarily in Contra Costa County. She lived well, loved deeply and laughed abundantly. She embraced all that life had to offer and found the good in everything and everyone. She taught unconditional love, by example. Her joy, strong Christian faith and her desire to learn, lives in with her loving family and many friends. Beloved mother of Jane E. Peterson , Joanie Ambrosini (Marco) and Jon Housden (Stana); Grandmother of Terianne Peterson, Greg Peterson (Mary), Scott Housden, Josh McDowel (Alexis), Zack McDowel; Great-grandmother of Briana Felix, Bailey Peterson, Alaina McDowel; sister of Eileen Keene; aunt of Pat Schreiner, the Housden nieces-Georgette, Thelma, Yvonne; many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her second husband Elmer Sloan, first husband and love of her life Burl Housden, their daughter Colleen and beloved niece Cherie Ewing. We would like to thank the beautiful people of Hospice of the East Bay, who became her "adopted family." A new light will shine on the Hospice Tree-Morello Ave. Mtz. In Evelyn's honor; tree lighting sometime in November. Evelyn's unconventional wisdom helped pave the way for women in the workplace; she worked and volunteered for most of her life. She retired as a Kaiser volunteer at 94 years old. If you are so inclined, volunteer for your favorite cause in her memory, or make a donation in her name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Preschool, or Hospice of the East Bay 3470 Buskirk Ave., Pleasant Hill, CA 94523.
Visitation: Thursday Oct. 9th from 3pm to 8pm- Connolly & Taylor 4000 Alhambra Ave., Martinez
