Peggy was the daughter of Vernon and Wyona Anderson-Allred. She married Russell Smith in 1965. She attended Westminster College, majoring in Music. She worked many places, and her husband's Air Force career enabled them to travel extensively.

She worked for almost twenty years at Weber State University, and loved the time there. She retired early to care for her ailing mother, a mission of love. Her time at Weber State found her providing her son with a seeming-endless supply of Weber State clothing.

Peggy loved volunteering, and was particularly happy to volunteer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. She also took part in the PTA, Scouting Services, and was the choir director for Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Her legacy is her love, caring, courage, and support for those around her. She personified kindness and respect.

At the time of her death, she was survived by one son, one granddaughter (the light of her life), her sister, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 43 years.
