Obituary from Sandersville, Georgia newspaper, 1 Jan 1862:
Died at his residence in this county, on Wednesday, Dec. 18th last, SILAS FLOYD, Esq, in the 73 year of his age.
For many years a prominent and popular citizen of the county, he was elected to represent it in the Legislature during several successive terms, and served the office of Judge of the Inferior court to the satisfaction of all. Kind hearted, affectionate,... few men have been more beloved by those who knew him. A member of the Methodist E. Church for 50 years, he filled acceptably the offices of Steward and Class Leader In all the relations of life few men have excelled him. As a husband and father, he was all that could be required, patient, kind, loving, devoted. As a neighbour, sympathizing, charitable and generous. As a citizen, industrious, ?, and patriotic; as a Christian, his piety was ubobtrusive, and hopeful, rarely desponding or depressed, he seemed to enjoy the ..., only to be derived from the "peace of God," while at times his cup of ? overflowed. Affected for the last six months, and during most of that period confined to bed, his confident trust in God never for a moment wavered, as he walked through the "valley of the shadow of death" without fear. He lived to see a large family of children grown, a majority of whom are working to follow him as he followed Christ.
"Servant of God, well done
Rest from thy loved employ,
the battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy Master's joy."
