Taken from the book, "Zachariah and Nellie Fender Landreth and Their
Descendants" by Naomi Drake Miller, 1955:

Thomas Landreth was named for his father's brother Thomas Landreth. When Thomas
was about 10 years old his father moved his family from Owen county, Indiana to
Mercer county, Illinois where Thomas grew to manhood. He was a young man of
medium height with curly hair which in common with so many Landreth men, he was
destined to lose early in life.
In 1850 Thomas and his family was living in Owen county, Indiana but he was
prone to wander and made long journeys by river and covered wagon.
Along with many members of his family, in 1868 Thomas moved from Mercer County,
Ilinois to Ringgold County, Iowa. Tom became homesick for the rest of the family
after about four years in Iowa and sold his farm to his older brother Eli
Landreth and moved back to Mercer county, Indiana where his daughter Nole Lee
Landreth was born.
Thomas and Rachael Landreth at the time of the 1870 Census were living in
Duncan, Mercer, Illinois. He was a farmer with $1500 in property and $1210 in
personal property. No children are listed with them in 1870.
Lewis Landreth had moved his family to California in 1885 and thought it a
wonderful place, so Tom and Rachel decided that they too would move there. In
1887, about a year after their daughter Lillie's marriage to Will Partridge,
Tom, Rachel, Ratio and Nola moved to Whittier, Los Angeles, California where Tom
engaged in farming.
Tom did not live many years in California where he died of fatty degeneration
of the heart on December 27, 1896, following two attacks of typhoid fever. He
died just one month after the birth of his first grandchild, Ethel Louise
Landreth, daughter of his son Ratio.
