Charity married Andrew Marion "Mine" Defoe on January 22, 1874 at the age of twenty. By the time of the 1880 census, the couple had three children Sarah Ann, Thomas, and Amanda "Mandy" Defoe. In 1890, the couple was residing in Little River Arkansas. Sometime between 1900 and 1910 the couple settled in Township 3, of McCurtain Co., OK.
Charity married her second husband John Alexander Ashford in October of 1920. Mr. Ashford passed away in 1922, and Charity applied for his Confederate War Pension.
Charity passed away sometime in January of 1922 at the age of sixty-eight. She probably died at the home of her daughter Amanda Defoe Hinch in Eagletown, McCurtain CO., OK, where she was recorded as living in the 1920 census.
I think it is safe to assume that she was buried next to one of her two husbands somewhere in the Haworth Cemetery. Currently on Find a Grave, Andrew M. Defoe is recorded as being in the Harris Cemetery, but his obituary states otherwise. The Haworth Cemetery has many old unreadable headstones, so I have been unable to locate their graves. If anyone has any other information, please contact me.
