Melrose - Marvis Lamar Bell, age 74, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 2, 2014 at E. T. York Haven Hospice Care Center. He was born in Branford, Florida, lived in Dixie County and moved to Alachua County at the age of 9. In 1973 he moved from Gainesville to Melrose, FL. He was employed at the University of Florida, Northeast Regional Data Center (NERDC) for 30 years, retiring in 2004. He served in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne Division.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Bessie (Mikell) Bell, and his sister, Carolyn (Bell) Jones Poole. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Walker) Buckhalter Bell, Melrose; two daughters Lisa Boles (Charlie) and Angela Goldberg (Scott) both of Gainesville; one son Alex Jeffery Bell (Angelita), Orange Heights; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four nephews, and one niece.

There will be a graveside service held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Meadows Memorial Park East, Hwy 20, Gainesville, FL. Pastor Rick Ergle will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 N. W. 90th Blvd, Gainesville, Fl.32606.

**Marvis Lamar Bell is a direct descendant of Rev. John Almarine Fletcher and his wife Sarah Lanier Dell, through their daughter Sarah Frances Fletcher and her husband Levi Joshua Bell.

From his paternal line, Marvis has two Revolutionary Soldier ancestors; William Fletcher and his son, William Fletcher (buried at Old Concord Methodist Cemetery, Telfair County, GA)

From his maternal line, Marvis has two Confederate Soldier ancestors; Allen E. Mikell (wounded at battle of Olustee, FL.) and Lewis A. Frazier (wounded at Battle of the Wilderness, VA)
