Death Claims Lorenzo Clark, 79, Pioneer Utah Organist

Lorenzo Wagstaff Clark, 79, 1460-11th East, pioneer Utah organist, died Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at his residence after a lingering illness.

Mr. Clark was organist of the Sugar House Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for many years and was the first stake organist in Granite LDS Stake. One of the original members of the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir, he also was music director for five years for Jordan School District.

He was born in Salt Lake City Aug. 4, 1875, a son of Lorenzo Southwell and Mary Raachel Wagstaff Clark.

He married Ada Sarah Sanford Sept. 8, 1897, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

In 1911, he moved to Tabiona, Duchesne County, where he took up farming. During that time he served as clerk in the LDS ward there, as a notary public and was music director of schools as well as a member of the board of education.

Mr. Clark moved back to Salt Lake City in 1923 where he has resided since. He was organist of Emerson LDS Ward until the time of his last illness about a year ago.

He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: George L., Harold W., Newell S. Clark; Mrs. May Larsen, Mrs. Annie Searle, all of Salt Lake City; Frankl L. Clark, Tabiona; Mrs. Sarah Loveday, Ogden; Lynn S. Clark, Saratoga, Calif.; Arthur K. Clark, Twin Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. D. C. Kimball and Mrs. Mattie C. Sanford; a brother, Benjamin T. Clark, all of Salt Lake City; 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Emerson Ave. Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple Monday 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday at the chapel one-half hour prior to services. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
