François Xavier Laibe was born 21 Jan. 1854, at Faverois, Dept. of Haut-Rhin (now the Territory of Belfort), France. (Faverois is a small village on the French-Swiss border, population about 500.) He was the son of Joseph Florent Laibe and Marie Rotzler or Rotzeleur.
Xavier was the grandson of George Laibe, a native of Faverois, and Généreuse Prenat, of the tiny village of Villars-le-Sec, in the same area.
