He was preceded in death by Rufus and Nelmar Akins; brothers, Ramon and R. Z. Akins; sisters, Ruth Teasley, Sara Franklin Hardy, Sue Johnson and Maggie Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Linda W. Akins; sons, Michael Akins, Jason Akins, and Jeremy Akins; sisters, Ann Emerson, Eudora Hamilton (brother-in-law Harold); and grandchildren, Mallory Akins, Lindsey Akins and Jennifer Akins.
Jerry loved his wife, family, children and grandchildren. He loved Alabama football, loved to visit friends at Buddy's Rib & Steak, Wright's Restaurant and City Café. He also loved his church and church family. He never met a stranger.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Carter, Roger Burroughs, Billy Colburn, Charles Teasley, Edward Teasley and Mike Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Debra Davis, Dr. William Hill, Dr. Richard Jones, Dr. Michael Robards, Dr. Alilona, DCH ICU nurses, DaVita Dialysis Clinic and night nurses.
