Lorenzo Dow Erwin, the second son of Andrew and Nancy Jordon, was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, near Montmorenci, October 2nd, 1832, and departed this life December 2, 1916, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 11 days. He came to Jasper county in the year of 1857 and improved a number of farms in the vicinity of Remington.

He was united in marriage to Mary Anne Donnelly in the year of 1859, April 9th, she having preceded him in this life August 29, 1897. Seven children survive him, David A., of Wessengton, South Dakota; Allen M. Vondersmith of Brook, Indiana, Addie L. Hoover, of Sedalia, Missouri, Nancy E. Waterman of Chicago, Felix R., of Fair Oaks, Indiana, Gertrude Littlefield of Rensselaer, Ind., May Graves of Marshfield, Oregon. Two girls, Rebecca and Maggie, died in infancy.

His early life was spent in farming and stock raising. He united with the Christian Church in 1898. He was a faithful member and found much comfort and joy in his religion. He was a member of the Masonic order for over 60 years, and through this order was enabled to do much good in his younger days. He was a kind father, loving husband and a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and a host of friends.
