Jose was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eraclio and Maria H. Garcia; brother, Isidro Garcia; sisters, Belen Nino, Consuelo Gonzalez, and Angela Enriquez.
We are profoundly saddened by his death. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Jose is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marcolfa E. Garcia; their eight children, Jose Garcia Jr., Diana (Ron) Shaw, Maria Hermila Zarate, Eraclio Garcia, Efrain (Sylvia) Garcia, Paul (Mary) Garcia, Robert Julio Garcia, and Gloria Garcia Medina; one brother, Ramon H. Garcia; and three sisters, Teresa Garcia, Guadalupe Canales, and Josephina Esparza; 17 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, May 2, 2013, from 5pm to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary. Funeral service will be at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker in McAllen, Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Military services are under the direction of VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Family would like to thank and are greatly appreciative to those who cared for him and lifted him during this journey in prayer, especially Amara Hospice, The Comfort House, and Estela Cortez.
In lieu of flowers family requests donation be made to The Comfort House 617 Dallas Ave. McAllen, TX 78501.
