Richard Edward Baugher, 74, long a resident of the Schram City and Hillsboro communities, died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Mr. Baugher was gardener at the hospital the past five years and was named its "employee of the month" last June. He was described as a man who "takes great pride in his gardening. He doesn't say a lot, but always has a friendly :Hello."

The remains are at Bass Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with visitation after 5 p.m. today, Monday, and rosary prayer services at eight o'clock. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church by the pastor, the Rev. Fr. Leonard Rathgeb, and burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

He and his twin sister, Ellen, were born Aug. 22, 1910, in Pana to Albert Newton and Henrietta (Dilley) Baugher. He was reared in Schram City and for 34 years was employed at the Eagle Picher plant here. He became the hospital's gardener after retiring from the smelter.

He and Margaret G. Murphy were married Aug. 3, 1935, and lived in Hillsboro all their married life. They became parents of five daughters, all of whom survive: Mrs. Louis (Patsy) Lynch, Mrs. Walter (Myrna) Neely, Mrs. Gerald (Linda) Young and Mrs. Bob (Jane) Blackburn, all of Hillsboro, and Mrs. James (Sally) Cleaver of Springfield.

There are 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Baugher also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Manwaring of New Memphis, Mrs. Charles (Anna) Christy of St. Louis and Mrs. John (Mary) Holkum of Mascoutah.

Three brothers and a sister have died, Aaron John, Albert McCoy and Arthur Ewing Baugher and Mrs. Bessie Craig.

Mr. Baugher was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and of Knights of Columbus. The family hopes to establish a landscaping memorial fund at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
