Virgil J. Smith, 53, died following a Long illness Virgil J. Smith, 54, who had been in ill health for the past six years, died at his home, 128 E. Bloomfield Street., shortly after midnight Saturday. Mr. Smith was born in Lowell, son of the late William and Emma Brown Smith and at the age of five years he came to Rome with his parents. For a number of years he conducted the Smith farm on Turin Road.
Thirty-five years ago he was married to Miss Grace Bellinger who survives with the following children: V. William Smith of Utica; Winfield A., G. Raymond, Harold L., Donald E. and Marion E. Smith, all of Rome. There are two brothers, W. Albert Smith and Gordon P. smith, both of Rome. There are also six grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a member of the First M. E. Church.

Funeral services for Virgil J. Smith of 128 E. Bloomfield Street were held from his home at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon with the Rev. C. F. Miller of the Calvary M. E. Church officiating, Robert W. Midlam sang "Abide with Me and Old Rugged Cross, with Miss Ethel Midlam", with Miss Ethel Midlam playing the accompaniment. Bearers were all sons, V. William, Winfield A., Harold L., and G. Raymond Smith. There were many floral tributes. Interment was made in Wright Settlement Cemetery.
