MIDDLEBURG — Theroda H. Ewig, 93, of Richard Road, passed at 4:27 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at the Zendt Home in Richfield, where she had lived for the past three years.
She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Beaver Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Jacob and Katie (Oberlin) Benfer. On Nov. 26, 1934, she married Arthur W. Ewig, who preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1978.
The couple farmed their entire married life.
She was a member of St. Paul's "Erdley's" Lutheran Church, Middleburg.
Theroda enjoyed cooking and embroidering as well as her cats. Her grandchildren where the highlight of her life.
Surviving are two sons, Robert and David Ewig, both of Middleburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Dennis Krick of Middleburg, Frances and Dennis Herbster of Beaver Springs, and Anna and Jim Straub of Beavertown; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Grace Benfer, of Beavertown; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Roger, Raymond and Harrison; three grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Ewig; five brothers, Park, Henry, Wesley, Daniel and Palmer Benfer; one stepbrother, John Long, and three sisters, Mary Keister, and two in infancy.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, where the funeral will follow at the 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne C. Muthler officiating.
Burial will be in the Erdley's Church Cemetery, Middleburg
