Long time Delta Resident, Dee Richard Cockroft, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Hopewest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, CO. He was 82 years old. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at The First Baptist Church 1250 Pioneer Road Delta, CO with the Rev. James Conley officiating. Interment followed at the Mesa View Cemetery. Dee was born on December 16, 1931 in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Ivan and Gertrude (Lake) Cockroft. At an early age Dee's family moved to Delta to make their home. Dee graduated from Delta High School in 1950. Dee served our country in the U. S. Navy from 1952 until 1956. On February 14, 1958 Dee married the love of his life, Elsie M. Imhoff, in Delta, Colorado. Dee worked at Hinton Auto Parts for 27 years. Then for five years he worked as a car salesman for Phillips Chevrolet. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church and was on the board for Grand Mesa Christian Camp. Dee was also an Awanas Leader. Dee enjoyed hunting and fishing snowmobiling and spending time with his family. He loved being in the mountains. Dee is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elsie M Cockroft, of Delta, CO; a son, Rick, of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren: Jennifer Cockroft and husband, Zack Harding, Dustin Cockroft and Bryce and Becky Cockroft, of Delta, CO; 14 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Jade, Hannah, Kaleb, Zedekiah, Jared, Russell, Emma, Austin, McKenzie, Garrett, Carlynn, Dylan, and Hunter, of Delta; An additional survivor of Dee's is Kathy Anders of Delta, CO. Dee was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn (Cockroft) Babcock; and four brothers: Lee, Bill, Don and Dean. Memorial contributions can be made to HopeWest Hospice P. O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
