Argentine Statesman. On May 25, 1810 he was appointed secretary of the First Governing Junta, which started the process that led to Argentina's independence. He founded the public library, directed "La Gazeta de Buenos Aires (Buenos Aires' Gazette)", organized ministries and created a military academy, among other doings. Perhaps because of his youth, he wanted quick changes and this worried the conservative members of the Junta, especially its president Cornelio Saavedra. He died while en route to London in a diplomatic mission and was buried at sea. Saavedra is quoted to have said "it was necessary so much water to extinguish so much fire".
