Dr. Homer B. Gable. 69, a prominent Monticello physician for 44 years, died at his home in Monticello Sunday. He had been in failing health for several months.

Dr. Gable was born in Ross township on November 4, 1884, a son of William and Mary (White) Gable. He graduated from Mulberry high school in 1904 and then went to the old Valparaiso Normal for a year. He took his medical training at the Chicago Medical college.

He was first married to Grace Osterday, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Osterday. He later married the former Helen Bennett. She survives along with a son, Larry, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Ray Morphew of Corpus Christi, Texas; a step-daughter, Mrs. Fred Helwig of Lafayette; three brothers, Eden and Artus of Mulberry, and Walter of Peru, and two sisters, Miss Anna Gable and Mrs. Iva Yount, both of Mulberry.

In the past few years Dr. Gable had specialized in the treatment of ear, eyes, nose and throat ailments. He was on the staff of St. Joseph and Memorial hospitals, Logansport, and resident surgeon for the Monon and Pennsylvania railroads. Dr. Gable was a member of the Monticello Methodist church, Masonic lodge, Shrine, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite and the Red Men lodge.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Miller Funeral Home in Monticello. Rev. Blaine Kirkpatrick and Rev. Gilbert Piker officiated. Burial was in the Riverview cemetery.
