Charles "Charlie" W. Roush was born March 9, 1875 in Jackson Township of Wells County, Indiana, the third of eleven children born to Henry Roush and Eliza Jane Batson. [His date of birth is from his WWI Draft Card.]

On July 10, 1898 in Washington County, Indiana, Charles married Luella "Ella" May Strain. One child was born to their union. Charles worked in the oil fields, and the family moved numerous times. The family was enumerated in the 1910 census of Montpelier, Blackford County, Indiana:

By 1917 the couple had moved to Oklahoma, living in Tulsa County and then Bryan County.
