Virgil M. Garner died as the result of a farm accident at the age of 49.

He was an employee of the Kentucky Highway Department and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He was survived by his wife, Ruth (Shepperd) Garner (married July 11, 1931); his sons, Layton Garner of West Somerset, Kentucky, Lindsey Garner of West Somerset, Kentucky, Larry Garner of West Somerset, Kentucky, John Garner of Highland, Indiana, Eddie Garner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Harvey Garner with the U.S. Navy; and his daughters, Janet Garner of West Somerset, Kentucky and Marie Garner of West Somerset, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.M. Garner and Lizzie (Lester) Garner; and one son.

Funeral services were held at the Sardis Chapel Methodist Church with Reverend Smith Gilmore officiating.
