Dorcas C. Protexter, age 87, Clark, died peacefully in her home of an apparent stroke on Tuesday, August 26, 2014.

A closed casket visitation, at her request, will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 5-7PM at the Furness Funeral Home at Clark.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 1PM in the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ at Clark with Pastor Fawn Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Clark. Music will be presented by Betsy Kolden and Kathy Weber. The honorary casketbearers will be her morning coffee women’s group. The active casketbearers will be Jerry Olson, Les Solberg, Bruce Brekke, Elwin Larson, Jon Doyen and Bert Stanley.

She was born at Clark on July 24, 1927, the daughter of Walter Bruce and Lucille (Wood) Protexter. Dorcas attended Clark Schools and graduated from Clark High School in 1945.

She began a career as bookkeeper at the Olson Motor Company in Clark, a career that went from 1948-1976. After her retirement from Olson’s, she served as the manager of Clark Liquors and then as the City of Clark librarian for many years until retiring two years ago.

Dorcas grew up with a softball in her hand, loving that game of fast pitch softball, playing competitively for many years in this area. She enjoyed other sports as well including golfing and bowling to name a couple. She had served as a Girl Scout Leader, sexton for the Rose Hill Cemetery Association and also on the Clark Alumni Association Board.

She was a life-long member of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, taught Sunday School and also helped with various treasurer jobs at the Church for many years. Dorcas enjoyed spending times with friends, visiting former softball teammates and time with her family, especially the nieces and nephew, serving as a second mother to them during their high school days especially.

Preceding her in death were her parents, step-father, a brother, Richard Protexter,a nephew, David Doyen and a niece,Judy Wegman Stanley.

Grateful for having shared in her life is her sister, Janice (Herb) Wegman of Raymond, a sister-in-law, Jeannette Protexter of Aberdeen and several nieces and nephews.
