Elizabeth "Betsy" was born in Blairgowrie, Scotland December 20, 1830 where she attended school and grew up before coming to Canada to Hamilton, Ontario with her parents in 1852.

On October 17, 1854 Elizabeth married her first cousin, James Duncan Seaton in Hamilton, Ontario. Elizabeth and James would have known one another in Scotland. They both came to the Americas - Elizabeth to Canada and James to USA in 1852. After marriage, they settled on a farm in Albeston Twp. just south of present day Seaton village. In 1870 they sold this land and moved to a farm they had purchased near Little York, Illinois in Sumner Twp. Here they farmed the rest of their active years and lived out their lives on this farm. Elizabeth died at their farm home in Sumner Twp on December 31, 1907 and is buried in Candor Cemetery near Seaton, Illinois.
