George Arthur Carlile was my mothers brother. I have appended a short bio that was distributed by his daughter. Please add it to his memorial. Thanks
Born December 10, 1921 in Cottage Grove, Oregon he passed into the arms of our Lord on August 17, 2014 in Hoodsport, Washington. Art was the youngest of seven children of Susie Wood and George Levi Carlile who died in a Mill accident when Art was barely a toddler. He served in the Army in Germany during WW II, was wounded in The Battle of the Bulge, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was a self logger by trade who worked in Cottage Grove, Oregon for 44 years as well as in the Philippines and then for the Oregon and Washington Forest Service. He was also a longtime Mason.
He has been a resident of Hoodsport, Washington for 39 years and was their Fire Commissioner for 33 years. Due to Art's "thrifty" ways, the fire department has new and state-of-the-art equipment. He built the house where he lived that overlooked the Hood Canal that he loved, where so many friends and family felt at home when visiting. He was a founding member of the New Community Church of Union and as in all the things he has been involved in, he was a respected member of the congregation.
Art is survived by his sister Grace Alice, his children, daughter Inamae who was his caregiver the past two years, son George (Barbara) and daughter Glenda (Don), fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Marguerite, Vivian and Madge, his brothers Kenneth and Wendell and his son Robert.
Art's favorite mission was building the first church of The New Community Church of Union. Donations in his honor may be made to The New Community Church of Union, 951 Dalby Road, Union, Wa. 98592.
