Rosa M (Allen) Speight was born on July 26, 1870 in Hickman County, Tennessee, the daughter of William Thomas "Buck" Allen (1826–1911) and Mary Paralee (Beasley) Allen (1831–1910). {While her cemetery marker has her born incorrectly in 1869, her 1st listing in a census record was in 1880 as age 9, AND her Death Certificate does have her born on July 26, 1870, and THAT WAS AFTER THAT CENSUS WAS POLLED ON July 22, 1870 for the household of her parents.}
She was married on April 9, 1900 in Dickson County, Tennessee to Edward Carroll "E C" Speight (1870–1931), the son of James A Speight (1830–1899) and Mary "Violet" (McCaslin) Speight (1836–1927). Rosa and E C established a home in Nashville after their marriage.
A member of the Church of Christ and living at 1616 Woodland Street, Rosa was 73 ears old and a widow when she died of stomach cancer on August 24, 1943 at home.
Survivors included her sister Mrs J A Norwood and sons Paul E Speight, John H Speight and F Harley Speight, all in Nashville.
Funeral Services were held on August 25th at John C Roesch Funeral Home, and burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.
Much of the above is from her Death Certificate, with J H Speight of 1616 Woodland Street, Nashville as the informant. Additional information is from her published obituary in THE TENNESSEAN on August 25, 1943.
