According to newspaper articles, John was to have been inside the fort at Fort St. Clair when it was attacked in 1792 by Chief Little Turtle's braves. It is said that John liked the area so much that he came to live here. In fact, he lived just a bit west of Fort St. Clair on St. Rt. 122 West. He also served in the War of 1812.
