Oshel (Smokey) Benson, 82, of Sanford, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1993, in the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center, Midland. He was born in Missouri on Aug. 20, 1911 and attended schools in Missouri. He was an oil pumper for Lease Management, Inc.
Mr. Benson and his wife, Sylvia, were married Feb. 11, 1943, in Gladwin. Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, Gerald of Gladwin, Randy of Beaverton and Wayne of Scott City, Mo.; 4 daughters. Mrs. Joe (Wanda) Swanton of Beaverton, Mrs. Bill (Karen) Carey of Sanford, Cindy Benson of Hope and Mrs. Ron (Manie) Krevinhaus of Olivet; 2 brothers, Estel Benson of Zephyrhus, Fla. and Virgil Shelton of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister, Nadine Burt of Zephyrhills. Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul Benson and David Shelton.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Billings Township Cemetery. All-Bright Shores, with the Rev. James Thompson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hospice.
