Bessie Dufrain died Friday (2 Oct 1931) after being struck by a train at Mitchell crossing, three miles north of Granite City, aged 39 years, and was buried in Sunset Cemetery, east of Granite City. She was enroute to her home at 2141 Washington Avenue. Her funeral was at Mercer Chapel in Granite City. She was the daughter of Jeff Rhodes, of Alto Pass. She worked at Chouteau Inn on the road to the Chain of Rocks Bridge. She left her husband, Elmer Dufrain, employee at Granite City Steel Company; and four children, Zula Dufrain, 17; Carl Dufrain, 15; Pauline Dufrain, 13; and Maxine Dufrain, 9. She also left three brothers, Cecil Rhodes and Hiram Rhodes, of Granite City, and Aaron Rhodes, of Alto Pass.
