Son of John "Johnnie" & Viola/Veona (ROSS) HENRY. Died overseas while serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, but his death card does not report where he died (probably France, or perhaps England).


Per entry in Sexton's ledger for Porterdale Cemetery: Ernest HENRY died aged 25 years of pneumonia and was buried 02 AUG 1919. The record doesn't report where in the cemetery this individual is interred, and the location of the grave is currently unknown. The headstone was placed at the western fence with headstones for others, the location of whose graves is presently unknown.


Ernest HENRY (born AUG 1894) appears in the 1900 census household of John (JUL 1864) & Veona (SEP 1869) HENRY, in Columbia, Henry County, Alabama. John was a drayman and Veona a laundress; they had ben married 6 years and she had borne 3 children, all still living. Besides Ernest were Eddie L. HENRY (female, born DEC 1895) and Mattie HENRY (born AUG 1897) - parents born in Georgia, children in Alabama.


Ernest appears, aged 18 years, in the 1910 household of John (36) & Veola (34) HENRY, at 834 Seventh Avenue in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. They had been married 14 years; also present were Eddie L. (12) & Mattie L. (10). The family are reported at Mulatto (reported as Black in 1900).


WWI Draft Registration Card, 05 JUN 1917: Ernest HENRY, aged 22 years, single, natural-born citizen, born 27 AUG 1894 at Seales, Alabama, residing at 1811 Canton Avenue, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, employed as a laborer by Mr. WILSON at 2309 Robinwood, 5' tall, slender build, brown eyes, black hair, not physically disabled, no dependents.
