Ellen was born in Ireland, and arrived in the United States in 1853 (per US Census Report). In 1870, she was working in a cotton mill, and boarding with John Larkin and his wife, Jane Murray Larkin in Sprague, Connecticut. From 1889 to 1897, Ellen was living at 60 Anson Street, Derby, Connecticut, and again boarding with the John and Jane Larkin family. I believe Ellen left the cotton mill in the late 1880s, and began working in the Larkin home. From 1910 through October 1917, she was living and working in their home on 24 Seymour Avenue in Derby. Ellen remained with the Larkin family until her death, and is buried in the Larkin family plot. I believe that Ellen lived with the Larkin family from 1870 until her death in 1917 at their homes located in Sprague, and Derby. I do not believe there was any direct family connection, but in the 1870 census, both she and John Larkin were working in the cotton mill in Sprague. The Larkins were taking in boarders in Sprague, and in their first home in Derby on 60 Anson Street. It doesn't appear that Ellen ever worked for the Larkins at their hotel at Fort Trumbull Beach, which they owned from 1881 to 1911. This seemed to be a time when Irish immigrates, who had secured a decent living in the US, made efforts to help others arriving from Ireland.
