Martina Bogart, daughter of Roelof Bogert and Geertruy Brynant, married Joris B. Brinkerhoff in November 1745 in Bergen County NJ. They had seven boys all born in NJ: James, Roelif, Henry, Gilbert, Jacob, John and George.

In 1770 Joris/George and Martina moved the family to a farm in York County, now Adams County, PA. It is reported that 150 Dutch families moved in a group from New Jersey to the Conewago Colony. Joris/George was a ruling elder of the reformed church under the Rev. Cornelius Cozine, and his youngest son George served as the second pastor after Rev. Cozine's death in 1786. All the other sons served in the Revolutionary war.
