John Nolan was born in 1797 in Dublin, Ireland, the son of Marie Fillion and Thomas Nolan. He married Sarah Richardson in 1829 in St-Nicolas, Quebec, Canada. They had 12 children in 21 years. He died on February 23, 1881, in Ste-Agathe-de-Lotbinière, Quebec, Canada, having lived a long life of 84 years, and was buried there.
