Funeral services for Miss Anna Basye, pioneer and esteemed resident of the Capital City who died early yesterday morning at the home of a cousin, Charlton B. Corwin, 117 East McCarty Street, will be held at the Grace Episcopal church. Rev. Wharton, pastor of the church, will conduct the service and burial will be made in the Woodland Cemetery.


The active pallbearers will be Charles Winston, Hugh Stephens, Dr. George E. Haigh, W.H. Gundlefinger, W.W. Johnson and Baker Johnson.


Miss Bayse, who was 82 years of age, was taken ill about ten days ago and her condition gradually became weaker until the end yesterday. Death resulted from a complication of diseases.


Miss Basye was born and reared in Jefferson City and spent virtually all her life in this neighborhood. She taught school for a number of years in Kansas City and other cities. She was a daughter of Dr. Alfred Basye Jr., who died in the Civil War under the Confederate flag. Two of her brothers also made the supreme sacrifice in the was for the cause of the South. One of her grandfathers, John Walker, was elected state treasurer of Missouri in 1834, being the fourth treasurer in the history of the state. Her other grandfather was Major Alfred Bayse, who was recognized as one of the outstanding local civic leaders during his day.


She was a good, loveable woman active in church and charity circles, and leaves host of sorrowing friends to mourn her passing.


Surviving are Mr. Corwin, a nephew, with whom Miss Bayse had her home for the past two months; three brothers, one in Kansas City and two in Texas; three cousins, Mrs. Horace B. Church, Mrs. Charles E. Dewey and Mrs. Winnie Pope Hawkins; three grand nephews; Louis Creel Jr., Willis and Warren Corwin and two grand nieces, Helen Corwin Johnson, Mary Helen Corwin and Mrs. David Bayles.
