Alexander Pitner was born near the "Hermitage"; the home of Andrew Jackson; in Tennessee. His father was a friend and neighbor of Andrew Jackson. His father also fought under Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. In 1820, the family came to Morgan county.
Alexander died at his residence on Pine Street in Jacksonville, IL.
Survived by his wife; a son (names not stated) of Cincinnati, Ohio; several brothers: Rev. Levi P. Pitner of Evanston, W. C. Pitner of Decatur, and Dr. F. R. Pitner of Clay City, IL; and one sister, Mrs. John M. Thompson (Harriet) of Virginia. One nephew was mentioned, Dr. T. J. Pitner of Jacksonville.
Funeral held at the residence on Pine Street.
Burial beside his brother Montgomery Pitner in Jacksonville Cemetery.
