Helen Ford was the only child of Dr. James Henry and Lois (McLain) Ford of Wabash and Indianapolis, Indiana. Her paternal grandparents were Dr. James and America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, and her maternal grandparents were Judge Nelson and Lois McLain of Kokomo, Indiana.

Helen was married on August 31, 1910 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harold Whiting Slauson (son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Slauson of Middletown, New York) during a lavish home wedding hosted by her parents. Immediately after the wedding, the couple moved to Scarsdale, New York where three daughters were born: Lois Olivia (1911), Antoinette Whiting (1915) and Ruth Wilcox (1926) Slauson. She had three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four gr-great-grandchildren.

Harold Whiting was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1953 near Sacket's Harbor, New York. Helen moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1964 and was an artist and weaver of some note.
