Mr. William A. Faughnan Sr. beloved husband for over 45 years of the late Dorothy Boyle Faughnan, of Augusta died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated today Thursday, August 1, 2002, at noon at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with The Rev. Andrew Doris and The Rev. Allen J. McDonald, celebrants. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
A native of Augusta, Mr. Faughnan was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and of the Junior College of Augusta. He was a retired executive vice-president and secretary/treasurer of Merry Companies (Merry Brother Brick and Tile Company) after 45 years of service from October 1936 until December 31, 1981. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Merry for almost 30 years from January 1956 until May 1985 making a total association with the company of 49 years.
Mr. Faughnan was also a member of the Augusta Richmond County Data Processing Commission for seven years from 1976 through 1983 having been appointed three times by the mayor of Augusta, Lewis A. Newman, a member of the Augusta Country Club, a charter member of the Irish American Heritage Society and a parishioner of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church for more than 50 years where he served on the Finance Committee on two occasions and five years as a Lay Eucharist Minister. A WWII Veteran, Mr. Faughnan served his country faithfully in the US Army Air Corps.
Survivors include four sons, William A. Faughnan Jr. of Rawley, Mass., James E. Faughnan of Augusta, Michael J. Faughnan of Acworth, Patrick D. Faughnan of Winter Springs, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs. John J. (Ann) Ronchetto of Grain Valley, Mo., Mrs. Eleanor Faughnan Peterson, Catherine B. Faughnan and Margaret E. Faughnan all of Augusta and nine grandchildren, Julia Ann Swain, John J. Ronchetto, Michael J. Ronchetto, Ashley Peterson Brown, Alison Peterson Brown, Michael S. Faughnan, Patrick R. Faughnan, William A. Faughnan III and Brian M. Faughnan and one great grandchild, Madelyn L. Ronchetto.
