Alfred King, Sr., 80, 2916 S. High St., died Tuesday in Ball Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Stearns, Ky., and had resided in the Muncie area for the last 45 years.
Mr. King formerly owned the King's Market on South Walnut Street and the Atlas Coal Co. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 4 years, Rudy Reed King, Muncie; three daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Curtis) Harris, Lois (Mrs. Fred) Cross, and Laura (Mrs. Thomas) Wilson, all of Muncie; three sons, Denver King, Selma, and Eugene and Alfred King Jr., both of Muncie; two stepchildren, Wanda Rhodes and Lindal Reed, both of Muncie; 48 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, two sons, a daughter and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Conrad Piepho Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Calling will be 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
